Why are microfiber towels becoming more popular for detailers?Microfiber is a special synthetic yarn and is ultra fine. Each fiber is approximately the diameter of a strand of silk, 100 times finer than a human hair. This fiber is also virtually lint-free. The composition of the fiber is a blend of 80% polyester and 20% polyamide. This technology produces very fine open spaces between the fibers. There is also more fibers per square inch (about 90,000) than a conventional terry cloth towel. More fibers and more open space between the fibers, allows more dirt, dust, and oils to be held in the cloth. A microfiber towel holds about seven times its weight in liquid.Microfiber towels work best when slightly damp. Lightly mist the towels with water and you are set to go. If the towel starts to streak, it is either too wet or too dirty. Washing is simple. They can be washed in a washing machine with liquid laundry detergent. You do not want the any un-dissolved graduals of powdered detergent stuck in the towels. It may cause scratches. Also NEVER use fabric softener. The microfiber towel will treat the fabric softener like dirt and dry to store the tiny fabric softener particles, clogging the towel and limiting its effectiveness. Also NEVER wash with other towels as they may pick up lint or become contaminated.Micofibre towels are superior in wiping compound, polish, or wax of the vehicles paint surface. They are softer than any other towel available, and should never scratch the paint if properly taken care of.
