Detailing really is international and global

Welcome to my blog! Or column, or editorial page. I am not sure what to call it. I just hope you guys dont call it crap! I have never done anything like this before so I hope you will enjoy it, get some useful information from it, and we can all have some fun. I have never had a blog before. I never looked at myself as a “writer” but I have written dozens of technical and how to articles over the years for various publications. It just kind of happened. Now should I call myself a columnist? A journalist or a pundit? I think not! I am not “left wing” or “right wing”. Actually the position I have played for years on my hockey team is  center!! I don’t twitter, or “tweet”. I don’t have a my space page or a face book page, or any other kind of “social” page. I am not “linked in” or anything like that. So this is virgin territory for me. I am sure I will like it and have fun with it, and I hope you will also. I will try not to take things too seriously, but at the same time I will try to give useful information and pass along things that I have learned and what’s going on out there.

Much is always said about the state of the detailing business and where it’s going. We all talk about new products and equipment, ways of doing things and trends. We look to be more professional and have people look at detailing as a legitimate and profitable business. We have made huge strides in the close to 20 years I have been doing this. But we only seem to talk about what is going on here in the USA. If you really want to see progress, we can look at what’s going on in detailing all across the world!

Detailing is now GLOBAL! It has been for a number of years but we have never seen it. This is great thing that is happening for everybody involved in any aspect of detailing. People from all over the world look at detailing now as a legitimate business. People obviously drive cars all over the world and now they know what detailing is, even in some pretty remote countries. I have been lucky enough to have trained people from about a dozen countries. These people have traveled here to the USA to see what detailing is like in the United States and to learn from us! I have been lucky enough to meet some great people and to help then get detailing started in their respective countries. Detailing is just scratching the surface in many of these countries and when they need help….they look over here to us. I also get to talk to and email with people from even more countries. They want to get into the business. They want to buy our products and equipment. They want to see how we do things.

I also learn from them as well. I know in some parts of the UK, they call detailing “valeting” I just recently found out that in Russia, they call is “sinking” I learned that most foreign countries are facing the same economic climate that we do. Many countries face the same water restrictions and run off issues as we do in some parts in this country. Many countries are looking to go green and clean with steam….just like us. Detailing now is truly international and we are leading the way! They want to learn from us….and they want to buy from us! Detailing is a global and international business and it seems to be growing at a rapid pace in other countries. I swear I have had conversations with people in countries where I could not even identify it on a map.

Some people may say this business sucks to be in right now. That may be true….at the moment. However, what I see happening in different foreign countries makes me excited to think that they see opportunity where we only see doom and gloom. They are moving ahead and getting more involved in detailing while some of us are getting out or want to get out. I see positive signs all the time. If we all survive what’s going on now, we will all be stronger in the near future.

Now if detailing could only grow at the pace that “you tube” has grown or “twitter” or “face book”, then we would all be sitting pretty. But together we can keep moving it in the right direction.
